Volunteer Teaching: Madagascar

Most people in Madagascar can’t afford to travel, and in villages like Tsararano Ambony, there is little chance of contact with the outside world. You, as a foreign teacher, not only enable the students to form a relationship with someone from a different background and culture, but also the local teachers can learn new and up-to-date teaching methods and techniques from you. You will mainly assist the regular school teachers and therefore - even without a formal teaching background - you can participate in this project.

Overall, I felt very well prepared before starting my trip. I felt very well supported throughout the duration of my volunteer experience by the local team. What a great group of hard working individuals! I continue to reflect on the level of eagerness and interest demonstrated by the students, children, teens and adults. Children attended the classes despite being on school break! My favourite moment was hearing students call out my name while walking about in the village following my volunteer teaching experience. I couldn't believe they remembered my name. This trip generated a renewed sense of gratitude for all things available to me at home. If you are thinking about volunteering, go for it! You won't regret it and will only grow from the experience.

Madagascar, the world’s second largest island nation after Indonesia (check out our Bali packages!), is one of the richest places on earth for biodiversity. It is a popular ecotourism destination but still a step into the wild for many backpackers. If flora and fauna aren’t your bag, then Madagascar’s 5000 km of coastline provides you some particularly stunning beaches to explore. Our Madagascar tour packages give you a chance to get involved in habitat restoration, teaching, animal care and hands-on renovation work.

Volunteer Teaching in Madagascar

Instruct children of varying ages from rural communities in Nosy Be in fundamental conversational English. You will contribute to the education process by working alongside the faculty at a government-run institution. Additionally, you can offer support in after-school activities, motivating the students to realize their maximum capabilities and expand their horizons through innovatively designed classes.

Volunteer Program

In remote villages like Tsararano Ambony, Madagascar, opportunities for global exposure are limited. As an international educator, you can connect students with diverse backgrounds and cultures, while local teachers learn modern techniques from you. Supporting existing school staff, you'll teach children of various ages and abilities in English and other subjects, using your own materials and methods. Despite higher education being in French and Malagasy, English remains vital for tourism in Nosy Be, making your role essential.
